The Story of the Location : Waterworks Meadow, Lea Valley, London The name Waterworks Meadow originates from the 19th-century water infrastructure that once shaped this part of the Lea Valley. “Waterworks” refers to the reservoirs and supply systems constructed to provide water for London’s rapidly growing population, while “Meadow” reflects the natural landscape of low-lying grasslands that originally characterised the area. Today, the human-made structures have fallen silent, and the land has gradually begun to return to its natural state. However, it has not simply reverted to what it once was.
